No-Sew Octopus Crochet Pattern - Super Fast Make!

Materials:

  • Weight 6 yarn 
  • Size J/6.0mm 
  • Stuffing
  • 18 mm Safety Eyes or felt eyes 
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch Marker

Abbreviations:

  • mr = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet 
  • inc = increase (2 sc in next stitch)
  • dec = invisible decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
  • st = stitch
  • FO = fasten off

This pattern uses weight 6 blanket yarn. Any yarn may be used, but your crochet hook size will be different. Use a hook 1-2 sizes smaller than your yarn calls for. This pattern is in US crochet terms.

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds and using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch is recommended. 

*Safety eyes are NOT recommended for children who are three years old or younger.

The octopuses pictured in the pattern is made with Sweet Snuggles Lite and parfait chunky.

Pattern:

R1: 8 sc in a magic ring

R2: 8 inc (16)

R3: (1 sc, inc) x 8 (24)

R4: (2 sc, inc) x 8 (32)

R5-9 (5 rounds): 32 sc

R10: (2 sc, dec) x 8 (24)

R11: 24 sc

R12: (1 sc, dec) x 8 (16) 

R13: In the front loop only – *1 sc, Ch 8. Beginning in the 2nd chain from the hook, 3 hdc in each chain, 1 sc.* Repeat * 7 more times.

Insert safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9, about 4 visible stitches apart. Begin stuffing the octopus.

R14: (1 sc, dec) x 8 in the back loops from round 13.

Finish stuffing the octopus, fasten off, and sew hole shut.

I was in a hurry to find a free, easy octopus pattern for my friend’s birthday party, and I stumbled upon this one. I love it because it only took me an hour and a half to make! although I would like how may sc to do in between the tenticles

I also loved it, but as a newbie I had a hard time with the tentacle part. I ended up with around 16 arms instead of 8. I’d like a more detailed description of the length between each leg!
