This pattern uses weight 6 blanket yarn. Any yarn may be used, but your crochet hook size will be different. Use a hook 1-2 sizes smaller than your yarn calls for. This pattern is in US crochet terms.
This pattern is worked in continuous rounds and using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch is recommended.
*Safety eyes are NOT recommended for children who are three years old or younger.
The Zombie pictured in the pattern is made with Bernat Blanket yarn.
Legs (Make 2)
R1: 6 sc in a magic ring
R2: 6 inc (12)
R3-6 (4 rounds): 12 sc
Fasten off of the first leg only.
With the second leg, attach with a sc to the first leg (see pictures below)
Continue onto the body:
R7: 24 sc around both legs
R8: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
R9-11 (3 rounds): 30 sc
Stuff both legs firmly. Continue stuffing the body and head as you go.
R12: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
R13: 24 sc
R14: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
R15: 18 sc
R16: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
R17: 12 inc (24)
R18: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
R19: (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
R20-24 (5 rounds): 36 sc
R25: (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
R26: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
If using safety eyes, insert them now. I prefer to use one button (sewed on) and one embroidered “X” to give the doll a Zombie look. You could embroider both eyes if you prefer. I place my eyes at approximately round 23. Get creative!
R27: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
Finish stuffing the head.
R28: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
R29: 6 dec (6)
Fasten off and sew hole shut.
Normal Arm:
R1: 5 sc in a magic ring
R2: 5 inc (10)
R3-4 (2 rounds): 10 sc
R5: (3 sc, dec) x 2 (8)
R6-9 (4 rounds): 8 sc
Stuff up to round 4 only. Sc across top to close. Sew onto the body just below the head on one side
Bitten Arm:
R1: 4 sc in a magic ring
R2: 4 inc (8)
R3-6 (4 rounds): 8 sc
R7: Fold arm in half and sc 4 across to close. Chain 1 and turn.
R8: sc, chain 2, sl st into next stitch, sc, chain 2, sl st into last stitch. Fasten off.
Do not stuff. Sew the arm onto the body with a scrap piece of yarn. Attach arm from round 1 onto the body so that the "bitten" side is where the hand would be.
Details:
Get creative with your Zombie!! I like to embroider a wide smile with stitches for the mouth and 3-4 “stitches” on the body of the zombie. Simply embroider a long line horizontally, then embroider 2-3 small lines across the first line. If desired, add red as an accent colour.
