Crochet mushroom man

No Sew Mushroom Man

Materials:

  • Weight 6 yarn 
  • Size J/6.0mm 
  • Stuffing
  • Safety Eyes or felt eyes 
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch Marker

Abbreviations:

  • mr = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • inc = increase (2 sc in next stitch)
  • dec = invisible decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
  • st = stitch
  • FO = fasten off

This pattern uses weight 6 blanket yarn. Any yarn may be used, but your crochet hook size will be different. Use a hook 1-2 sizes smaller than your yarn calls for. This pattern is in US crochet terms.

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds and using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch is recommended. 

*Safety eyes are NOT recommended for children who are three years old or younger.

Arms (Make 2)

R1: 6 sc in a magic ring

R2: 6 inc (12)

R3-4 (2 rounds): 12 sc around

R5: (2 sc, dec) x 3 (9)

Stuff up to round 4 only.

R6-9 (4 rounds): 9 sc

4 sc across the top to close. Do not leave a long tail as the arms will be directly crocheted onto the body at round 29.

 

Legs (Make 2)

R1: 8 sc in a magic ring

R2: 8 inc (16)

R3-4 (2 rounds): 16 sc around

R5: (2 sc, dec) x 4 (12)

Stuff up to round 4 only.

R6: (2 sc, dec) x 3 (9)

R7-9 (3 rounds): 9 sc

4 sc across the top to close. Do not leave a long tail as the legs will be directly crocheted onto the body at round 36.

Begin in cap colour:

R1: 5 sc in a magic ring

R2: 5 inc (10)

R3: (1 sc, inc) x 5 (15)

R4: (4 sc, inc) x 3 (18)

R5: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)

R10-11 (2 rounds): 48 sc around

Change to body colour:

R12: (6 sc, dec) x 6 (42)

On the opposite side of your stitch marker, insert your safety eyes between rounds 23 and 24, about 4-5 visible stitches apart. Begin stuffing the head and continue stuffing the head and body as you go.

R28: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)

Depending on your tension, you may change where you crochet your arms on. Just make sure they are centered with your eye placement. You will be crocheting through BOTH the arm and the body.

R29: 1 sc, 4 sc with first arm, 3 sc, 4 sc with the second arm (12) (see picture below)

R30: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)

R31: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)

R32: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)

R33-35 (3 rounds): 30 sc

Depending on your tension, you may have to adjust where you attach the legs. Just make sure they are directly lined up with the arms.

R36: 7 sc, 4 sc with first leg, 14 sc, 4 sc with second leg, 1 sc (30)

R37: 30 sc

R38: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)

Sew hole shut and fasten off. 

 

Cap Circles (Optional)

Large (Make 2-3):

R1: 5 sc in a magic ring

R2: 5 inc (10)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Sew onto the cap at random.

 

Small (Make 2-3):

R1: 6 sc in a magic ring

Close the ring with a sl st. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Sew onto the cap at random.
