Bunny Free Crochet Pattern

Clover the Bunny - Free Easter Bunny Crochet Pattern

Materials:

  • Weight 6 yarn 
  • Size J/6.0mm 
  • Stuffing
  • Safety Eyes or felt eyes and either a safety nose or some scrap cotton yarn to embroider one
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch Marker

Abbreviations:

  • mr = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • inc = increase (2 sc in next stitch)
  • dec = invisible decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
  • st = stitch
  • FO = fasten off

This pattern uses weight 6 blanket yarn. Any yarn may be used, but your crochet hook size will be different. Use a hook 1-2 sizes smaller than your yarn calls for. This pattern is in US crochet terms.

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds and using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch is recommended. 

*Safety eyes are NOT recommended for children who are three years old or younger.

 The bunny pictured in the pattern is made with Sweet Snuggles Lite.

 

Head & Body

These are worked as one piece, starting at the top of the head.

R1: 6 SC in a magic ring

R2: 6 inc (12)

R3: (1 SC, inc) x 6 (18)

R4: (2 SC, inc) x 6 (24)

R5: (3 SC, inc) x 6 (30)

R6: 12 SC, 6 inc, 12 SC (36)

These increases are to form the bum. When attaching safety eyes later, keep this in mind.

R7-12 (6 rows): 36 SC

R13: 12 SC, 6 dec, 12 SC (30)

R14: 30 SC

R15: (3SC, dec) x 6 (24)

R16: 24 SC

Stuff the body firmly. Make sure you shape the bum of the bunny with lots of stuffing.

R17: (2SC, dec) x 6 (18)

R18: 18 SC

R19: (1SC, dec) x 6 (12)

R20: 12 inc (24)

R21: (3 SC, inc) x 6 (30)

R22: (4 SC, inc) x 6 (36)

R23-28 (6 rows): 36 SC

R29: (4 SC, dec) x 6 (30)

Attach safety eyes between rows 26 & 27. If using, attach the safety nose in the middle of the eyes, 1-2 rows below. Otherwise, you can embroider a nose on where you think looks best between the eyes.

R30: 30 SC

R31: (3 SC, dec) x 6 (24)

Start stuffing the head. Make sure the neck is stuffed firmly.

R32: (2SC, dec) x 6 (18)

R33: (1SC, dec) x 6 (12)

R34: 6 dec (6)

FO and sew hole shut.

 

Arms – make two

R1: 6 SC in a magic ring

R2: 6 inc (12) R1: 6 SC in a magic ring

R2: 6 inc (12) R1: 6 SC in a magic ring

R2: 6 inc (12)

R3: (1 SC, inc) x 6 (18)

R4: 18 SC

R5: (1 SC, dec) x 6 (12)

R6-7 (2 rows): 12 SC

R8: (2 SC, dec) x 3 (9)

Stuff hand. Do not stuff past row 6.

R9-12 (4 rows): 9 SC

SC across the top to close. FO and leave a long tail for sewing. Attach onto the body vertically between rows 13-16.

 

Legs – make two

R1: 8 SC in a magic ring

R2: 8 inc (16)

R3: (1SC, inc) x 8 (24)

R4-5 (2 rows): 24SC

R6: (1SC, dec) x 8 (16)

Stuff foot. Do not stuff past row 6.

R7: (2SC, dec) x 4 (12)

R8-11 (4 rows): 12SC

R12: (2 SC, dec) x 3 (9)

R13: 9 SC

SC across top to close, FO, and leave a long tail for sewing. Attach at the bottom of the body horizontally.

 

Ears - make two

R1: 6 SC in a magic ring

R2: 6 inc (12)

R3: (1 SC, inc) x 6 (18)

R4: (2 SC, inc) x 6 (24)

R5-9 (5 rows): 24 SC

R10: (2SC, dec) x 6 (18)

R11-18 (8 rows): 18

R19: (2SC, dec) x 4, 2 SC (14)

R20- 26 (7 rows): 14 SC

R27: (5 SC, dec) x 2 (12)

SC across the top to close, FO and leave a long tail for sewing. Attach onto the head at approximately the third row from the top of the head.

 

Tail – make in white

R1: 6 SC in a magic ring

R2: 6 inc (12)

R3: (1 SC, inc) x 6 (18)

R4-5 (2 rows): 18 SC

R 6: (1SC, dec) x 6 (12)

Stuff tail.

R7 6 dec

FO, attach between rows 7 and 9 at the center of the back.

 

Bow (Optional):

Chain 3, 3 DC in the first chain. Chain 3, Sl St into the first chain. Chain 3, Sl St into the first chain. 3 DC in the first chain. Chain 3, Sl St into the first chain. FO and leave a long tail for sewing.

To form the bow, take one of the ends and tie it around the center a couple of times. I like to knot it on the back side of the bow with the other end. Attach the bow wherever you’d like on the bunny.
