Abbreviations:

  • sc = single crochet

This pattern uses weight 6 blanket yarn. Any yarn may be used, but your crochet hook size will be different. Use a hook 1-2 sizes smaller than your yarn calls for. This pattern is in US crochet terms.

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds and using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch is recommended.

*Safety eyes are NOT recommended for children who are three years old or younger.

The star pictured in the pattern is made with Sweet Snuggles Lite.

R1: 8 sc in a magic ring

R2: 8 inc (16)

R3: (1 sc, inc) x 8 (24)

R4: (2 sc, inc) x 8 (32)

R5: (3 sc, inc) x 8 (40)

Fasten off of first circle only. Once you complete the second circle piece, line it up with the first and mark every 8th stitch (ensure that they are both right side out). You should have 5 stitch markers evenly spaced on your star circles. See picture below:

We are going to make the points now:

R6: 8 sc in one star circle. Remove the stitch marker and place another 8 sc on the other side of the star, working into the second star circle (see pictures). We can now work in a spiral to complete the star point. (16)

Continuing onto the star point:

R7: 16 sc

R8: (6 sc, Dec) x 2 (14)

R9: 14 sc

R10: (5 sc, dec) x 2 (12)

R11: (2 sc, dec) x 3 (9)

R12: (1 sc, dec) x 3 (6)

Fasten off and sew hole shut. Weave in your end. Attach a new piece of yarn into the next stitch of the star circles so that you can repeat R6-12 4 more times, for a total of 5 star points. Stuff the points as you go.
